Check this before you sign
Most disputes between artists come from things nobody wrote down. Before signing anything generated here, make sure the document answers these questions without ambiguity:
- Who owns what. Percentages that add up to 100, with full legal names, not artist aliases alone.
- Master or publishing. Whether the deal covers the recording, the composition, or both.
- Territory and term. Where the rights apply and for how long. Forever is a decision, not a default.
- Money and timing. The amount, the currency, the method and the date it is actually paid.
- Deliverables. WAVs, stems, sessions and metadata, listed explicitly.
- Governing law. Which country decides if things go wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Are these contracts legally valid?
They are drafting templates, not a finished legal document. Whether a contract holds up depends on the law of the country you name in it, on both parties having capacity to sign, and on the terms matching what you actually agreed. Use them as a solid starting point and have a lawyer review anything with real money involved.
What is a split sheet and when should I sign it?
A split sheet records who wrote what in a song and what percentage each person owns. Sign it in the studio, the same day the song is finished, while everyone still remembers who contributed what. Registering songs with your collecting society later is far harder without one.
What is the difference between the master and the publishing?
The master is the specific recording. The publishing is the underlying composition: the melody and lyrics. They are separate rights, they are paid separately, and one contract does not automatically transfer the other. Every template here states clearly which of the two it covers.
Can I use these templates outside Spain?
Yes. Every template has a governing law field where you name the country and jurisdiction that applies. Fill it in with the place that actually makes sense for the deal, usually where the parties live or where the money is paid.
Can I download the contract as a PDF?
Yes. Once you generate the document you can copy the text, print it, or download it as a PDF ready to sign.
Does it cost anything?
No. The generator is free, needs no account, and has no limit on how many contracts you create.
